Contest "The last fight in Risen" - TheDoctor - (32/36)
Another pillar of fire struck out of the ground right next to the hero, burning him and making him stumble to the ground, dropping his sword and shield. Unable to erect, he felt his hopes slipping away. The battle had been long and ferocious, the great cavern lit in the shine of fires burning everywhere. It was difficult to accept that it would all end here, so sudden, so unjust - as if it had simply been a matter of time. The Underlord came walking up against him, as dark and frightfully inhuman as ever. For the first time, a fear struck our hero that had not been felt towards his arch enemy until this very moment. Lying helpless on the ground, worn and tired with that rugged sensation of harsh burns all over his body, it became all too evident that this was the final moment. All emotions became filtered through desperation at the primal instinct of survival. Stopping next to him, the Underlord looked at him with his faceless head. - "Simple, naive human," he boomed with his deep, hollow voice. "You play the hero and die as a martyr, serving as nothing more than a puppet to that mindless crowd; But you fail to see that this is but a show and that the crowd will go away when it ends. Humanity's fondness of clinging on to mere hope is what ultimately will drive you all into utter destruction. It is unthinkable how you could have survived this long on your own." - "You don't know us!" the hero shouted. "You are wrong!" - "Nevertheless," the gloomy figure answered, "This is the end." As the Underlord raised his sword to perform the finishing blow, he unconsciously revealed his torso and the crack that had been cut open on the side of his armour from the previous battle. Seeing this, our hero was struck with the exploding unwillingness to yet give up his life, and immediately clutched onto his sword which had been lying next to him. It was now or never. Striking into his chest came the enemy sword, piercing our hero and causing the expressionless enemy to radiate a sense of unspoken satisfaction. The cavern was filled with the hero's screaming voice as the pain overwhelmed him. Using what strength he had left, he swiftly brought his sword into position, the tip of the blade aimed at the hole of the Underlord's armour. The Underlord saw what the hero was planning and attempted to draw back in surprise - but it was too late. Putting all his effort behind, the hero rammed his blade into the enemy's body who fell back in agony, landing on the rocky ground where he wriggled for a moment only to suddenly stop dead. It was over. |
