Contest "The last fight in Risen" - BenMontana - (35/36)
Finishing off the last guardsman on the way to the Great Temple of Faranga, our nameless hero continued his way through the enormous, dark catacombs under the island. Visibly exhausted from sword fighting, he earned just enough cuts from his enemies’ longswords to make his blood drip on the cold, stone path which ends with the only possible way into the temple; the Gates of Inferno. He finally managed to cover the long route of the labyrinth and now he is standing in front of the doors, but what really awaits him behind them? Vacillating, he opens them and stands amazed in the doorway. The entire chamber is filled with magma which appears to be rising and there is only a concrete catwalk leading to a circle in the middle of it all. Everything looked like it was falling apart, so the hero didn’t waste time walking. Instead, he ran over the catwalk to the platform while the ground under him crumbled. Stepping onto the circle, strange noises commenced from all sides of the interior of the temple. Nameless nervously looks over his shoulder, only to spot a hazy figure behind him which dispatches these sounds. Impulsively turning around with his sword ready, he attacks! He swung the ore two-hander, thinking he caused the first blow. Surprisingly, it just went through the creature making it annoyed. Furiously, the demon bounced him to the edge of the platform. He barely grabbed hold of it and quickly picked himself up from the burning magma beneath his feet. It was clear now to the hero that in front of him was the Demon of the Underworld. Laris, the island’s savant, explained how this creature should be banished. “Aim for the heart and head. Be both precise and fast. The only way you can do damage is with special arrows crafted in the foothills of the Faranga volcano. Finish it by decapitating its head!” Nameless took up the wise advice. He prepared his longbow with the matching arrows and fired away. Two out of two, the arrows ended up stuck in the monster’s heart and brain. As the weak demon fell on its knees, the hero rushed to it and pulled out his battleaxe, beheading the creature. “It’s all over!” Or so our hero thought… He still had to escape from the rising magma and the temple that was collapsing. Scarcely making it out of the underground, nameless walked off to the sunset with the notion he had slain the Demon of the Underworld for good. |
